Superintendent's Blog

After returning from Exeter Country Club in 2013, I have had the pleasure of spending the last 13 seasons here at Nippo Lake working side by side with my father and long-time superintendent, Steve “Seve” Rowell Sr. I am very excited to now step into the role of Superintendent and continue caring for a property that means so much to me, my family, and so many others in our community. ~ Scott Rowell

Winter Work, Looking Ahead:

As we continue to dig out from mid-winter storms, the course is covered in snow and temperatures remain low, but this is still a busy time for us as we prepare for the golf season ahead. During the winter months, much of our focus is on servicing equipment, sharpening reels, organizing the maintenance facility, and planning. The work done now plays a major role in how smoothly we transition into spring.

On top of our regular winter maintenance, we have also continued the tree work we’ve been focused on over the past few seasons. Alongside Assistant Glenn Yorke and crew members Mike Olsson and Dave Delcourt, we’ve battled snow, ice, and freezing temperatures to remove over 100 trees of varying sizes over the past two months.

This work is done with three main goals in mind: safety, turf health, and playability. Removing hazardous trees and limbs helps keep golfers, staff, and property safe. Selective thinning improves airflow and sunlight, which are key factors in maintaining healthy turf - especially around greens, tees, and fairways. This work may also improve playability by opening sightlines and intended lines of play.

While some tree work can look significant at first, these changes are made with long-term benefits in mind. Healthier turf, safer conditions, and a more enjoyable playing experience are the results we’re working toward as we head into the upcoming season.

Thank you for your continued support, as we look forward to a great season.
