14th Anuual Take a Child to the Course Day

This fun afternoon of golf is sponsored by NLGC and The First Tee of NH
along with our members, employees and many area businesses who donate their goods and time to ensure that the afternoon is a big success. This event is an opportunity to introduce a child to the game of golf and help promote golf as a lifetime activity. Children under 17 years of age are encouraged to participate and there is no charge. Children ages 2 to 5 receive instruction on the putting green and driving range while children between the ages of 6 and 17 play 9-holes of golf from our US Kids Golf Tees. Clubs are provided by The First Tee of NH for all children to use who do not have their own set. A barbecue is available all afternoon for the children and their parents. Each child receives a commemorative gift along with “golf goodies” donated by area businesses.

 Shane Fillion

2013 Junior Membership Winner

Every April, NLGC offers a Junior Yearly Membership to a student entering 6th to 12th grade the following fall. Each applicant is asked to write a 200 word essay in response to the following statement: “Beyond the pure pleasure of the game of golf, it also serves to build character traits. Some of these traits include integrity, honor, respect, courtesy, sportsmanship, confidence, honesty, perseverance and self-esteem. Select TWO of these traits and tell us how these character traits would be enhanced in you, through your experience at Nippo Lake Golf Club.”

SHANE FILLION of Barrington was the winner of the 2013 Nippo Lake Junior Golf Membership Essay Contest for his essay about honesty and confidence.  Shane stated that “Honesty plays a huge part in golf. A lot of sports don’t really focus on honesty because there is an official there to make a call.   In golf, the people playing make the call.  You have to be honest with both your partner and your opponents.”  He went on to say “The wonderful game of golf can definitely build confidence.  Each time out you may be competing against someone else, but you are always competing against yourself.  Also, many business deals are made during golf games; lots of companies have golf outings or golf leagues.  Confidence is a key part of playing golf because if you don’t have confidence in your abilities then you will not perform well.”  Honorable mention was awarded to Brenden Turco of Nottingham.  Brenden wrote about respect and integrity and was awarded an hour playing lesson with PGA Professional Chris Mowers.  This coming fall, Shane will be a freshman at Coe Brown Northwood Academy and Brenden will both be freshman at Dover High School. Shane will be presented with a Certificate of Accomplishment for his essay at the 13th Annual Take a Child to the Course on Sunday, June 2nd at Nippo Lake Golf Club.
