| | | NLGC JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP Every
April, NLGC offers a Junior Yearly Membership to a student entering 6th
to 12th grade the following fall. Each applicant is asked to write a
200 word essay in response to the following statement: “Beyond the pure
pleasure of the game of golf, it also serves to build character traits.
Some of these traits include integrity, honor, respect, courtesy,
sportsmanship, confidence, honesty, perseverance and self-esteem. Select
TWO of these traits and tell us how these character traits would be
enhanced in you, through your experience at Nippo Lake Golf Club.” NIPPO LAKE GOLF CLUB ANNOUNCES WINNER OF JUNIOR GOLF MEMBERSHIP SHANE FILLION of
Barrington was the winner of the 2013 Nippo Lake Junior Golf Membership
Essay Contest for his essay about honesty and confidence. Shane stated
that “Honesty plays a huge part in golf. A lot of sports don’t really
focus on honesty because there is an official there to make a call. In
golf, the people playing make the call. You have to be honest with
both your partner and your opponents.” He went on to say “The wonderful
game of golf can definitely build confidence. Each time out you may be
competing against someone else, but you are always competing against
yourself. Also, many business deals are made during golf games; lots of
companies have golf outings or golf leagues. Confidence is a key part
of playing golf because if you don’t have confidence in your abilities
then you will not perform well.” Honorable mention was awarded to
Brenden Turco of Nottingham. Brenden wrote about respect and integrity
and was awarded an hour playing lesson with PGA Professional Chris
Mowers. This coming fall, Shane will be a freshman at Coe Brown
Northwood Academy and Brenden will both be freshman at Dover High
School. Shane will be presented with a Certificate of Accomplishment for
his essay at the 13th Annual Take a Child to the Course on Sunday, June
2nd at Nippo Lake Golf Club. Click here for the 2013 Junior Golf Membership Application
