SING BECAUSE IT'S FUN
From Tina Maiorino
2010 -- WOW!!!!
Did you ever think you would see it!
I know I didn't!
Instead we have all been blessed once again with another year to love, learn and grow. This past year has been a struggle for me at times and I found it hard to accomplish anything. BUT, as I look back on 2009 I remember that each and every day was filled with a song. I found that singing or humming made it difficult to think about my "troubles". Music is very powerful and at times can stir us, calm us, make us dance, tap our feet, harmonize, laugh and cry for joy and sometimes sadness.
What is really great about singing is that it has many health benefits. YES, health benefits! It can reduce stress and improve mood; lower blood pressure; boost the immune system; raise self-esteem and confidence; improve breathing; provide comfort.. the list goes on.
So the next time you feel tense, worried or afraid try singing a happy tune! You will be amazed at how much better you feel.
When doing some research about singing we came across an article by Judy Rodman (Singing and Playing Golf - Illuminating Similarities) that we will be sharing with you this coming golf season. We also found golf parodies sung to some popular "rock and roll" songs that will have you laughing out loud.
We know some of you will tell us you can't carry a tune or you sing like you play golf - we say - "SING ANYWAY"!
SO everyone, join us on the road to GOOD HEALTH as we sing our way through 2010! It's as natural as laughing and oh so much FUN!
From the Pro
Chris Mowers
Less than 75 days left until opening day at Nippo Lake for the 2010 season. As I think about the upcoming season with excitement, I continue to remember the smiles and laughs throughout the 2009 summer. The camaraderie between the membership and guests of Nippo is something special that everyone should be proud of. Whether it's meeting new people during tournaments or being paired up at the 1st tee box by the starter, chances are you will develop a great new relationship through the game of golf.
The definition of recreation is, "Refreshment of one's mind or body after work through activity that amuses or stimulates; play." Whether it's Steve Rowell the superintendent completing his maintenance practices to ensure the best playing conditions, or the Rangers filling the water jugs and maintaining the appropriate pace of play, the entire staff at Nippo is here to provide everyone with an experience that promotes this "refreshment".
In addition, the Pro Shop will be receiving an entirely new line of clothing in the Spring from such vendors as Adidas, Ping, Footjoy, and Nike at extremely low price points. Check out the new apparel, the 2010 tournament schedule, get involved at your club and get ready for an excellent season!
ATTENTION 2010 MEMBERS
Nippo Lake, Province Lake, Loudon Country Club, Ridgewood Country Club, Waukewan Golf Club and Canterbury Woods will once again form a membership cooperative where NLGC members can play at any of the above mentioned courses for $10 OFF the prevailing rate for 18 holes with a cart anytime during the week or weekend based on available tee times. (Not to be combined with any daily specials.) Please make a tee time 3 days in advance and don't forget to present your membership card.
We will once again be offering the PAY AHEAD PLAN. Please feel free to pay tournament entry fees ahead of time when it might be more convenient for your budget. (See membership book for fees pertaining to each tournament.) We will credit your account for the amount you pay and then charge your account when the tournament is held. Don't forget to get a RECEIPT!

YEARLY REMINDERS
Any gift certificates won during tournaments can not be applied to your membership fees or yearly cart rental. Gift certificates CAN BE USED towards merchandise, daily green fees and daily cart rentals.
NLGC will be hosting a few outside tournaments during the upcoming season, some that will be 8 AM shotguns. As a courtesy to our members, anyone wishing to play that day is invited to play during the shotgun, space permitting. Carts will be mandatory for all members who want to play in these tournaments.
Nippo Lake will once again be supporting the McDonough Foundation with an annual Tournament on Sunday, July 4th. We are asking members to make a $10 donation (see membership application) which will go towards their entry fee to play in the tournament. All proceeds that day go to the McDonough Scholarship. See your membership book for details.
JUNIOR MEMBERSHIP & LEAGUE UPDATE
We will once again host a junior league beginning Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 1:00 PM. Registration and parent's information night will be Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 6:00 PM in the restaurant. Children 7 years of age to 17 years of age are invited to participate. We are looking for volunteers to assist our staff during the time of play. Mark your calendars now. Further information and registration form will soon be available on our website.
Once again the NHGA and the NHWGA will be offering our junior members up to 18 years of age a complimentary GHIN. We strongly suggest that your child take advantage of this opportunity to establish a handicap. The use of handicaps during any golf competition is a vital part of fairness to fellow golfers.
Juniors from the ages of 7 to 17 will play in the Junior Club Championship. See membership book for details.
JUNIOR GOLF SCHOLARSHIP
NLGC will be offering a 2010 Single Junior Membership to a student entering grades 6 - 12 in the fall of 2009.
NLGC will once again be an affiliate of The First Tee of NH. Look for opportunities throughout the season to support this great organization. Volunteers and financial support are always needed. For more information visit their website at www.TheFirstTeeNH.org or contact them at info@TheFirstTeeNH.org or 603.964.3033.

2009 FALL SOCIAL MEMORABLE MOMENTS
Fifty eight members and their guests joined the annual festivities to help celebrate our club champions. Chris Mowers our PGA Professional presented the awards and also spoke about his first year experience at Nippo Lake. "The camaraderie at Nippo Lake is beyond belief. You just don't see this amount of enthusiasm in many clubs." BINGO BABE Vicky a.k.a. the "Prisoner of Love" entertained everyone with her usual BINGO shenanigans. If you have never attended this event please consider joining us September 11, 2010. We have our thinking caps on for a new idea for entertainment that evening. Call us with any suggestions you might have?
2009 JUNIOR GOLF MEMBERSHIP
JOHN `LJ" PARSONS of Madbury was the WINNER of our 2009 JUNIOR GOLF MEMBERSHIP. Eight area students submitted applications and LJ's essay about Confidence and Perseverance was chosen. LJ stated that "golf has taught me that it is necessary to set goals and take the needed steps to achieve them." He went on to say "Golf requires confidence and persistence as does achieving success in anything. I know from playing golf that if I try enough times, I will eventually find success." LJ found success in both 2007 and 2008 when he won consecutive Junior Club Championships for the 9-13 Division. LJ is a freshman at Oyster River High School. Honorable Mention was awarded to GABRIEL DRAPEAU of Rochester. Gabriel is a sixth grader at Rochester Middle School.
